We had a good run here to Murren in switzarland in our new van and even christened the gas hob with a spam and egg fry up on the banks of the pretty Lake Thunersee. We had to leave the van in Lauterbrunnen and take the cable car and train to car free Murren which was incident free !!! We are staying in the Alpina Hotel(abit fawlty Towers) but the staff and food cannot be faulted and the view of the Eiger from our balcony is stunning !!!
Now to the skiing, the drawback of the hotel is it's a bit of a hike to the cable car, but after a good breakfast which included making rolls for lunch we went to the big Schilthorn and made it to the Piz Gloria (2970m) famous for James Bond film On her Majesty's Secret Service. So our first run of the holiday was the black run off the top!! The only way down. We stayed on the top section all day and the snow was pretty good considering the mild conditions, only going slushy late in the afternoon. I tried some off piste and only lost my skis once. All our knees held up pretty well!! The only down side to the top section is the piste to the lower slope is closed so we had to go down in the cable car. Another knackering walk back to the hotel just in time to watch the paragliders soaring to the top of the Jungfrau (4158m) opposite - brought back memories of my flying days - but I was never good enough to get that high!
